INDUSTRIAL LININGS Case Study
Owens-illinois furnace rebuild for glass manufacturing facility
Dominion E&C was contracted by Owens-Illinois for the complete removal and refractory replacement of their main melter, (2) regenerators (including associated checker packs and rider arches), refiner and forehearths (3), and associated distribution channels.
The project utilized a significant amount of machinery for the initial refractory tear out phase, and a direct workforce of more than 100 personnel was engaged for the installation window. All workmanship was performed to the highest quality and met Owens-Illinois standards of commercial glass furnace refractory construction.
The main melter crown has a supersized brickwork arch, with a span of over 7m and a length of over 22m including the refiner section, requiring the installation of over 35,000 bricks and the fabrication of specialized engineered arch centers and scaffold systems to allow the support of the 160 tons of working lining and installation personnel.
