The Arnau de Vilanova Hospital has been named the best facility of 2025
The project, led by CatSalut, has won an award at the 10th Nit de les Infraestructures for its contribution to the modernisation of healthcare and for its delivery model based on BIM, Lean Construction and industrialisation.

The new outpatient building at the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital in Lleida has been recognised as the Best Infrastructure in Catalonia 2025 at the 10th Night of Infrastructure, organised by the Catalonian Infrastructure Advisory Council (CAdIC) and held at the Foment del Treball headquarters in Barcelona.

The award, presented as part of the Albert Vilalta Prize, recognises infrastructure projects that have a positive impact on society and contribute to the region’s economic and social development.

At this year’s event, the jury unanimously recognised the new outpatient centre for its ability to expand and modernise healthcare provision in the Ponent regions, improving accessibility, the efficiency of care and the experience of both patients and healthcare professionals.

Infrastructure designed to improve healthcare

Sponsored by the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut), the project was launched with the aim of freeing up space in the hospital’s main building, centralising outpatient services and optimising care for the nearly 2,000 people who visit the healthcare complex every day.

The new facility covers more than 19,000 m² and houses clinics and specialist services across various medical disciplines, enabling faster, more efficient and more personalised care for patients.

Beyond the figures, this facility has been designed to meet the current and future needs of the public health service, improving the quality of care and strengthening the capacity of the region’s healthcare system.

Technology and innovation at the service of people

One of the aspects most highly valued by the jury was the project’s development and delivery model.

The application of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and Lean Construction methodologies, alongside industrialised construction systems and a collaborative design process, made it possible to optimise resources, improve coordination between teams and significantly reduce construction times compared to those of conventional construction.

This approach demonstrates how technology, when applied with a clear purpose, can transform the way complex infrastructure is developed, delivering efficiency, quality and long-term value.

A tribute to our joint efforts

The project has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of a large multidisciplinary team comprising public authorities, architects, engineering firms and specialist companies.

The design was developed by SPG Arquitectes, MED Architects, JSS Efficient Engineering and QS Enginyeria, whilst the construction work was carried out by the HUAV Lleida joint venture, comprising COMSA, COMSA Industrial and DOMINION.

This recognition highlights the hard work, dedication and commitment of all the professionals who have taken part in the project, demonstrating that collaboration is key to successfully tackling the major infrastructure challenges of the future.
