The challenge

The client was planning to develop a capacity expansion at its power plant in Opole, Poland, by adding two 900 MW generating units. It would be the largest infrastructure project in the country since 1989, and for this the customer wanted to have more experienced and solvent suppliers recognized in each specialized part.

Dominion was responsible for the turnkey design and construction of the two cooling towers included in the project, both with natural draught, 185 meters high and erected with a self-developed formwork. With a diameter of 100 meters for air intake, the towers were supported by 36 radial columns of 11.6 meters in height. Dominion was also responsible for the design and construction of the towers' internal structures for water distribution and the discharge of flue gases from the desulfurization unit. Results

Thanks to the technological capabilities and expertise of Dominion's team, the work performed has, among other things, made the plant's electrical installation 25% more efficient and substantially smaller, as well as facilitating the new Opole II Plant to be inaugurated on time in 2019.

Our experience in constructing this type of infrastructure played a crucial role in this project, as we were able to apply all our expertise and to use our own specially developed technology for cooling tower construction, which guarantees excellent performance and high quality results.
