The challenge

The aim of the project was to build the most advanced and safe wood pellets storage facility to handle 90,000 m3 of imported wood pellets that are essential in the process of the plant energy conversion from coal to wood pellets. These first two domes are an essential part of the ALBIOMA energy transition based on the conversion of the current coal power plant into biomass power plant.

DOMINION's +

For the selection of the domes, the main parameters were the environmental impact and safety during the implementation of the project. Another very important factor for which we were finally selected was the construction time. Due to the start of the cyclone season at the end of October, the civil works of both domes were due to be completed before the end of the year.

Results

The construction of the first dome was finished on the estimated time. Each structure has a diameter of 50m and a total height of 38,95m for a unit storage capacity of 45,000 m3.

Wood pellets are discharged from ships then loaded into to the domes through a transfer belt conveyor. The reclaiming of wood pellets from domes is done by gravity thorough hoppers located in a diametric gallery crossing under the domes. The residual piles of product is reclaimed using a vibrating floor. The reclaiming is done through a belt conveyors that convey the product to the truck loading station.
