The challenge

To develop the integral implementation of technology and medical equipment at one of Chile's largest hospitals to convert it into the most advanced in the country. Also to operate and maintain the hospital equipment over the course of the next 15 years, guaranteeing sufficient facility efficiency. The fact that all of this was in a technical, operational, legal and financial environment with the strictest requirements and utmost competitiveness, under a concessional model (Public-Private Participation) constituted an additional challenge.

DOMINION's +

One of the main distinguishing features of Dominion's value proposal was independence as a technology provider, which allowed for the most suitable equipment to be incorporated and for technology from various manufacturers to be combined, based on the Hospital's requirements, thereby achieving the most efficient integral solution. To this end, the systems needed to connect the equipment to each other was designed and established and the operating procedures were established.

In the equipment maintenance and replacement stage, the key aspects have been to have designed and implemented the project with a view towards maximising the efficiency of subsequent O&M, as well as guaranteeing efficiency through digitalisation, by implementing a management platform for the contracted services (SIC - IT Communication System) which allows for thorough and centralised management and control of all hospital operation activities.

Results

The project has been a success as a result of creating and installing state-of-the-art medical equipment and IT solutions in one of the largest regional hospitals in Chile. This is the first PPP construction and equipment project in that same project. Also, the contracted services are being operated and maintained with high efficiency and service levels.

As a result of the success of the project, the concession model has been selected for the development of 18 new hospitals in Chile, and has also served as a benchmark for other Latin American countries such as Mexico, Brazil or Peru.
